Serving California Makes $30,000 Donation To Teen Challenge Ventura To Help With Losses Due To The Thomas Fire

SERVING CALIFORNIA MAKES $30,000 DONATION TO TEEN CHALLENGE VENTURA TO HELP WITH LOSSES DUE TO THE THOMAS FIRE

60 WOMEN IN RECOVERY WERE RELOCATED TO BAKERSFIELD

Ventura, CA – On Friday, December 15, 2017, Serving California presented a $30,000 donation to Teen Challenge Ventura to aid in rebuilding their main housing campus after losing it to the Thomas Fire burning in Ventura. 60 women were evacuated and relocated to another Teen Challenge facility in Bakersfield, CA.

Last year Teen Challenge served over 200,000 men, women and children in Southern California through its resident and outreach programs. The Teen Challenge residential program continues to be one of the largest and most effective substance abuse recovery and prevention programs of its kind.

Ventura Teen Challenge was established in 1972 and serves the Tri-Counties region: Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties. In 1999, Ventura Teen Challenge moved to a 143-acre property located in the Ventura foothills, aptly named “Miracle Mountain,” and increased their capacity from 25 to 59 women.

Monday, December 4th, Serving California got word that the 60 women residing in the Teen Challenge Ventura location were being evacuated to the Ventura County Fairgrounds as the Thomas Fire was approaching their location. Later they learned the fire had demolished the main housing campus at the Miracle Mile location, and the women were being transported to the Bakersfield Teen Challenge facility. The women lost all personal belongings they could not carry with them having only 10 minutes to evacuate.

On Friday, December 15th, Serving California was able to present Ventura Teen Challenge with a check for $30,000 to help them rebuild and assist the women who lost everything purchase new personal items.
