The Tuesday after Thanksgiving, has now become #GivingTuesday.
"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another." - Charles Dickens
Coming on the heels of the two largest shoppings days of the year, is the now celebrated #GivingTuesday. It is a day that sparked on social media, is now entering its fifth year, and has become a movement celebrating philanthropy. Many non-profits use the day to kick-off their end-of-year giving season.
At Serving California, we are using this #GivingTuesday to raise funds to purchase gifts for the women enrolled in the recovery programs we support. These women have made the decision to better their lives and overcome their struggles with addiction. The holiday season can be an emotionally rough time for people, especially ones that are away from their family and loved ones, so we are taking the opportunity to share love and support with these courageous women as they continue on their fight to turn their lives around.
In addition to giving each woman a small token of love, we are also purchasing a gift for each child of the women. A vast majority of the women enrolled in our partner programs are mothers, and it means the world to them to be able to give their babies a gift at a time when they might not have the means to do so. The average gift cost per woman is $25, but the return on investment is priceless.
We will be visiting with a large group of the women this Thursday (December 1st), and spreading some holiday cheer. Please consider making a donation today, #GivingTuesday, so we can make sure each woman and child receives a gift.
